Women’s Land Army Gallery

Picture
COME ALONG and see the Museum’s tribute to the Women who kept this country fed during two World Wars!

The Women’s Land Army and Timber Corps performed a vital role, helping to feed the people of this country during the World Wars.

At Gressenhall their story is told and recognises their efforts officially in a permanent gallery – opened on Wednesday, 24 August 2011 – which tells of their achievements.

Land Girls
and Lumber Jills – Norfolk’s Forgotten Army

The Women’s Land Army Gallery has been a major project and we think you will appreciate the work that has gone into it, as well as the ‘excellence’ that has been achieved.

The funding for the gallery has been provided thanks to the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, and the Wolfson Foundation, Norfolk Museums & Archaeology Service, and the Friends of Gressenhall and others who have given to ensure that this story gets told.
The Friends of Gressenhall added almost £10,000 in funding towards putting in the new gallery.

THE GALLERY
The Women’s Land Army Gallery tells the story of the women of two World Wars who worked so hard to keep this country fed.

It was vital to tell this story whilst there are still some of the veterans around to make sure it was told in the right way. Their hard work and contribution to the war effort needed to be recognised and not forgotten.
