The turtle doves have returned to Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse again this year. Though somewhat smaller than the collared dove and a bit larger than a blackbird, the turtle dove's gentle sound can be heard typically during summer (though with the recent weather warmer days seem as far off as ever!).

I hope to be at Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse again on Bank Holiday Monday, 2 May, for 'A Day with a Difference' – The Story Festival, where there'll be a chance to meet our much-loved characters from our favourite childhood tales. Perhaps I'll see you there?

The new workhouse section of the main hall, that was for a long time a large cavern, is now subdivided into glass rooms, which will eventually tell the stories of those people who once took shelter within the walls of the building. New powder coated plinths await the arrival of the shepherds hut when it goes on its final journey from one side of the main hall to the other.
All the new sculptures are now here and awaiting installation at various locations around the site. A major task undertaken by staff was the writing of the text and graphic panels, no light task I can assure you. However, after much work and many iterations this part of the project is virtually complete. So much so they have actually started to install graphics to the newly constructed walls.
After a robust tender process we were able to appoint ‘Elmwood Projects’ as the fit out contractors late last year. The transformation of the building began only last February, but once started progress has been very rapid. Another piece of procurement involved us appointing a digital company for the purpose of creating the content for the audio visual interactives and the app. The successful company was ‘Digital Opportunities, who are also very busy as we speak creating material for the exhibition. The completion date for the capital work is set for the 29th April 2016 and we are still on target, but this is not be the opening date, that is reserved for later in the spring. The official grand opening is likely to be just before the summer holidays.
A very exciting and innovative marketing campaign is being developed by Charles Wilde with a strong emphasis of utilising digital media instead of relying on print (see above photo).
Considering the complexity of the project we still seem to be on target for meeting out completion date, which is reassuring, but not quite a given just yet. Once we get half way through April we should then be able to be much more confident that there are not going to be any nasty surprises hidden around the corner. However the fact remains we have negotiated most of the most risky elements of the project such as procurement so it’s looking very positive for completion on time.
